The Yaesu is good, have the FT-8800 inside my mini car (660cc car). Excellent reception and easy to use.
What kind of antenna are you using there in your room (very big one), wouldn`t it be better to have it outside for better reception ? Nice station indeed.

A power supply by Yaesu. Why don't you buy a Ham-master or a Diamond, or Telecom... these are shipper and the same.
About the antenna, I don't think it needs a ground plane, so, what's that strenght thing at the base of the excited element?
Anyway, I'd buy a SWR counter and a power meter! I don't like wasting money ;-)

np - as soon as a radiating element touches something its SWR and efficiency changes. The capacitance between it and ground (via the wall) changes.

Nice station. If your antenna is running along the wall, move it away from it because the wall will possibly affect the SWR and effeciency of the antenna. Nice setup, and overall, very Yaesu :P
