@tutenchamun666 Sorry. I was wrong. I forgot the 6.9 was one of the first cars to mount the new "torque converter 3 gear automatic transmission". That was a new concept by the time.
Hey, if Lelouche had this car back in 76 for his film, instead of 8:30 the film would be 5:00 in length, or less! Leno, nice try, but... FAIL! Change the title of your tube, not the same spirit!
@MegaAmused As a former Mercedes Benz Service force in the 70's I must tell you some things: 1. the Mercedes automatic transmission was 4 speed by that time and 2. the V8 6.9 engine was built on the same base of the 6.3 engine that powered de 600 models or the predecessor of the 450 SEL 6.9, the 300 SEL 6.3 an absolutely exciting machine in form of a small limousine which I had the chance to drive several times. Gorgeus car! Todays AMG engines are tribute to that emblematic V8 of the 70's.

@MrDOSEFES
the gearbox of the SEL with the 6.9 V8 was a 3 gear auto not 4 gear :-)
and the AMG 6.3 badge is to tribute the M100 engine :-)
you are nearly right !
