This is a short film I did for my final year composition which achieved a first, for Music Technology, Lancaster University. Produced in spring 2009 by myself, starring Thomas Davis. Below are the program notes from the event.
"This video piece explores the complex and confusing world of a person suffering from anterograde amnesia, with specific reference to Clive Wearing. Mr Wearing contracted a virus in 1985 which attacked his brain and left him with an inability to process new memories. This has resulted in him continuously forgetting everything that has happened after 1985, and leads him to the belief that he has been asleep or unconscious and that his life in the present is his first experience of life since his illness. As a consequence, every new experience is overwhelming and powerful, worthy of record. Existence and identity are the two main themes of this piece. Can one justify his own existence despite having no memory of it? Can one be sure of his identity if he cant be sure if he has existed past this present time? This draws on argumentation by the philosopher Thomas Reid in the essay Of Identity. The piece is set in the last moments of the amnesiacs life, the reasons for this become clear as the piece progresses."
Amazing. I only just learnt about Clive Wearing I think you capture how he may feel and you have created an interesting, very deep film. Just Incredible!
