The Lord will show mercy to whomever He chooses. Look at the story of Jonah and how God spared the people of Ninevah, in spite of their sinfulness, because they repented. I believe this is the Lord calling the Muslims in that area to know Him and believe in His Son, Immanuel.

For those ignorant of Islam inorder to be a Muslim a Muslim must believe in Christ (peace be upon him) who was a prophet, because a muslim believes in all the prophets that came before. Read the Surah in the Qu'ran about Mariam (Mary). Islam is Peace.
