Over the past 50 years, people from all walks of life, have joined Amnesty International in order to help win the freedom of tens of thousands of prisoners of conscience, shut down torture chambers, halt executions and establish treaties and laws to protect the freedom and dignity of millions in countries around the world. By adding your voice to the movement, YOU become a force for human rights.

2011 marks the 50th anniversary of the founding of Amnesty International, which began with one person and an idea -- to protect the basic dignity and human rights of those imprisoned for their beliefs. In 1961 British lawyer Peter Benenson launched a worldwide "Appeal for Amnesty" on behalf of individuals imprisoned for the peaceful expression of their beliefs. His article in the London Observer, entitled "The Forgotten Prisoners," went on to be reprinted in newspapers across the globe. This call to action resonated with the values and aspirations of people everywhere, and Amnesty International was born. Today, Amnesty International has grown into a global movement of more than 3 million people, united by the commitment to freedom and human rights for all.

Now in our 50th year, Amnesty International's mission is as urgent as ever. To magnify our voice and increase our global impact, it is imperative that we join together. Our movement is more effective when we unite in action. Together, we can shine a light on human rights and be a powerful force for freedom.

  • Gucci is 3, Bunny is 4 and Waimarama is 8. They have done nothing wrong. We have the nz government using propaganda to label them and we are grateful that people have recorded their version and interpretation of events that has taken place. It started from they just want a conviction and statement and now it is political. We have audio of peoples personal acc files (rape victims) names (of rapist) and that they intend to make the children ill with the start & stop community because THEY TOLD US

Thank you for the feedback. Were glad to hear that people are responding well to it. Our hope was to communicate the power and importance of Amnesty's work without the need for language. Please pass it on.

  • LOVE IT!!! Love the typewriter in the beginning. For a second, I actually felt like we were watching Peter Beneson actually writing. And the music is perfectly paced for the building of such a human rights movement movement - powerful, subtle at times, but always steady. I think it's a beautiful testament to such a respectable organization after 50 years. And then the 50 years is "typed" at the end, as if Peter wrote it himself - AMAZING!!! Nice job!!!

  • I saw this at the AGM in San Francisco. Quite Powerful.
