This is my second attempt at printing working Helicopter blades at home using my Ultimaker 3D printer. They work! My first set of blades worked when used only as the top blades, but did not work when all 4 blades were replaced. This new version decreases the thickness (and therefore weight) and also increases the angle of attack.

Printed on an Ultimaker 3D printer (at home!) using Netfabb at 100% speed with the "Ultra" profile, which is .08mm layer heights. Each blade prints in 26 minutes.

The Helicopter is a "JXD 340" or sometimes its called a "Drift King" because unlike most cheap toy helis, it can fly sideways. Its a lot of fun and its only $29. I definitely recommend getting one. Much better than most cheapie helis.

  • What is the weight difference of blades? Do they need balancing?

  • @karabas3 Unfortunately I don't have an accurate enough scale to determine the weight difference. They feel about the same though - hard to tell. They don't need balancing though. I want to make a set for my new Blade mSR X and see if the higher RPM and higher blade forces are a problem.

  • But how did you made the blades? How did you copy the original blades? Thanks.

  • i have hear that impregnating with resin helps make them more durable (mentioned on "Known Universe - Construction Zone" during the 3D printing segment).. I am wonder inf using one of theo food vacuum machines might do that. Don't know how to impregnate in other ways.

  • Nice!

  • Cool!

  • Great Work!
