Wisconsin's 2010 representative to the national Teacher of the Year program, Maureen Look-Ainsworth, shares some of the secrets to her success--like setting cars on fire.
This video also includes footage of State Superintendent Tony Evers naming Look-Ainsworth the 2010 Wisconsin Middle School Teacher of the Year, in a surprise assembly at Horning Middle School in Waukesha.
Look-Ainsworth teaches critical thinking through science. She has developed innovative units such as "Crime Scene Investigation" and "Forensics" to enrich and deepen students' understanding of science as it's applied in the "real world."
She reaches out to "struggling" and "grey-area" students, using brain research methods to improve their study habits.
Look-Ainsworth strives for inclusiveness by coaching eighth-grade Science Clubs that provide partial scholarships so that every child can participate, including those with disabilities and economic disadvantages.
