The truth is that one should expect a much better performance from an "actress" with stage experience.

From what I've seen in her silent films, her acting wasn't over the top. However, her acting is way over the top in this film plus her voice drives one to drink.
-
@nybrite46 I know, it's pretty bad. The silent movie stars had a hard time adjusting to talkies. They were so used to over the top acting and of course, no dialogue.
-
Wow she really bad in this. I don't know what's worse, her acting or voice.
-
She in a talkie! OMG

@starburstsourpower Oh, no no no no no. Mary was repulsed by Chaplin the first day she met him. In her later years she was a lot nicer when she spoke of him. I'm sure she would have wanted to be hit by lightening had she even kissed him. Plus Mary wasn't like that. Don't know where you heard it but it's fo sho false.

@starburstsourpower charles must have gotten the big cock at that time...no wonder he can screw any of the chicks he wants n marries 4 wives in his whole life hahaha

Mary, unlike her film "brother", could actually act. Sound didn't seem to phase her. I read she had a lot of stage experience prior to her silent film days; here, it shows. Mary deserved her stardom.

@stevewoyach You got that right. He sucks like a Hoover upright.
Hi,
My grandfather, Sam Taylor directed this movie. I am proud of this contribution to film history.
