i find he doesn´t play it sooo well, his own composings. more like a entertainment servant and less like an artist.

(or like the artist he his for me!)

i mean, there is much more in his music, like if you hear interpretations of john arpin, or others

Yes but this was made on a piano roll, for entertainment purposes as you said it.

Actually we don't even know if he recorded this himslelf ; maybe another man did that task of recording all oh his rags.

Everyone tends to bitch about the tempo but they all seem to forget it's not a funeral march, it's still an entertaining style.

This roll is not "hand-played" by Joplin.

This piece was published posthumously. Joplin never wrote it in "order".

He was in the hospital for syphilus (it is unknown how he got it, but it is likely he was born with it) and suffered from dementia. his friends say that he used to snap awake and scribble down bits and pieces of music before lapsing asleep again. A man byt eh name of John Stark took the "notes" and pieced them together after he died. He did not do the roll, but he wrote the pieces that made it.

@FreeTheJambon sorry to say this, but the piece was published posthumous, meaning it was published after his death. So i don't think he did the roll because his last moments was in a hospital for treatments on a sexually transmitted diseases.

This is almost certainly a *mechanically cut piano roll*, that is, not played by ANY pianist. Also, "Reflection Rag" came into existence when various strains of unfinished works were combined and published after Joplin's death (the last rag to be published in his lifetime was "Magnetic Rag," in 1914). So what you are hearing says nothing whatsoever about Joplin's attitudes regarding performance.---David Thomas Roberts

I've posted this on a few of the uploads of Joplin music and it still holds true. This is American classical music...pure and simple.

And it never fails to lift my spirits. Thanks for this great piece.
