What do you tell the family that went into debt because their son had cancer. They even had health insurance but tapped that out. Do you think they should just let him die? Shouldn't they be given a chance to recover? But how can they do that when their balance, interest rates, and collection agencies are out of control? I think people should at least be given a chance to payback what they owe with reasonable interest rates.
Cont... I mean, my family is a single-income household, and there ARE medical treatments we should have but don't have because our insurance doesn't cover it and we can't afford it. But, we made the decision to refuse treatment and stay out of debt. Does it suck? Yep! But, life isn't a bowl of cherries. I think we can at least be happy that we live in a country that HAS that option, because I would think most dying people in the 3rd world would go into debt for medical treatment in a SECOND!
The problem with what this lady is saying is that it doesn't take a single-parent income to live a modern American lifestyle. It took a single-parent income to live an old American lifestye; before high-speed internet and expensive cable packages. People seem to look at the way life is now and expect an old-fashioned income to support it. Truth is, we don't need everything we think we should have out of life. The solution isn't rules and regulations, the solution is accepting responsibility.
