The first flight of my Seagull GeeBee Z powered by a Saito 170R3.
nothing special just a couple of passes whilst trimming her up and a landing
which unfortunately was missed by the camera man who was watching the landing.

  • I had no idea Freddie Krugar flew a Gee Bee Z !!! Nice plane.

  • @igo4mako Ha ha ! I see the resemblance ! thanks ( I think )

  • Saw the aftermarket struts I assume they are on the GeeBee. Seems like a good idea for the GeeBee, looking at soome of the video landings I've seen with springy gear.

  • @WTFLYR Yeah , I ordered the struts from unitracks UK precisely to stop the bounce & they do the trick, she hasn't bounced once on me even with some less than perfect landings ,also with the extra height I have had no nose overs on landing either.

  • So hopefully you can post another video of the Z landing since your camera man got distracted by filming dirt during this landing .

  • Check the video response above for a landing.

It was into a fairly strong wind so alot slower than normal (slight cross wind as well ) Glad I invested those struts ..stops the dreaded Gee Bee bounce & it wasn't the softest of landings.

  • I have a 170 myself but I'm thinking of selling it because of all the combined weight , Mcdaniel glow driver battery etc . I love the sound of it but I like performance .I have a CMP Gee Bee R2 that I'm about to maiden once I get the YS120sc sorted out .

  • Thanks ,yeah using a Pro glow (lion electronics ) glow driver , had to mount the battery back behind the wing for balance but works perfectly. The 170 bogs down alittle if you leave it idling along time ,have to clear out the cylinders to get full rpm again ..this should improve though as I get more run time on it & lean the mixture out alittle more.

    Cheers.

  • Hey Nice Z are you using onboard glow on the 170?

  • The prop for the first flight was an Xoar 17x6 , but am going to try a 17x8 next.

The AUW came out at 13.8 lb mainly due to the weight of the 170R3.

And I had Hi tech HS 5475HB standard Digitals on everything except the rudder I had an HS 645MG on the rudder.

Also had about 50% expo for all control surfaces.

    Cheers.
