These commercials aired on Music Television in October of 1983.

1. Mountain King (Incredible)
2. Safeguard (I'm simply fascinated by commercials like these)
3. Big Red (OMG at "Harmonize a little longer")
4. Cambridge Cologne
5. 1-800-HOT ROCK (I want a Free ZZ Top Keychain...)
6. The Greatest Hits Album (Easy listening "classics")
7. Pioneer
8. Wrangler (I'm...I'm pretty speechless)
9. Neil Young Pink Cadillac Contest
10. Panasonic Ambient Sound (With Earth, Wind and Fire!)
11. TV Spot for "Deal Of The Century"
12. Compound W (Nice Long Island accent there, wart girl)

  • Jeez... only a few months old when this was aired.

That "Harmonize a little longer" part of the big red song... sounded.. odd, really out of place. How long was it part of the jingle?

Pretty good selection of songs on that Album too.

    Great collection as always.

  • "Harmonize a little longer" was probably just for that ad only. I haven't seen it in other Big Red ads.

I was -8 months old when these aired.

  • This was when MTV was cool and played MUSIC not stupid shows like the Hills!

  • It was. Better cartoons, better TV in general, better toys. Being an 80s kid was fun.

  • What are those flat black things with the hole in the middle?

Seriously though. that was a great collection.

  • @kittymow321 Dr. Hook's the name of a pop-rock band (not one person) who were actually pretty cool to listen to as Dr. Hook & the Medicine Show in the early 70's. After they dropped Medicine Show they changed their sound to soft rock to blend in w/the current soft rock/disco sound of the 70's.

In other words...Dr. Hook was NOT a pedophile...SILLY!

  • Any album containing "The Winner Takes It All", "The Tide is High" and "Believe It Or Not" can't be all bad.

  • What's that EWF song for Panasonic?

  • Jean had warts . . .

  • This is back when MTV played all videos. Today they play nothing but crappy Reality Shows.

  • 1-800-HOT-ROCK--the Amazon of 1983!

If I was going to start a radio station that my mom would listen to, that Greatest Hit Album would be a good place to start. But really--leading off with the "Hill Street Blues" theme? I thought it was a TV themes album at first.

Were those windsurfers windsurfing naked? And what was up with that odd blue color of the jeans? I don't think I've ever owned a pair of jeans quite that shade of blue.

  • I was born just three short months before these aired...and it is SO weird to see music collection infomercials featuring vinyl. Strange to think that this was the norm when I was a baby...makes me feel old.

  • Big Red nice!

  • EWF for Panasonic. I remember those Panasonic portable boombox with Ambience sound, I used to have once since I was a kid. Nice looking radio that you can carry. I remember hearding it outside on a nice day in New York City where people carrying those boombox with their Panasonic boombox with Ambience sound stereo. The music for this commercial was "Fantasy" by Earth, Wind & Fire. I have the Lp of that in my collection.
