The fate of horses bred in this country for sport, show, pet, companion, work/trail is solely on the SOULS of the breeders and buyers & participants & viewing public of the sports & shows - shame on you all. Pets, companions & working horses MUST be euthanized repsonsibley , if one is not financially able, seek help. This goes for dogs, cats, all the animals that we humans breed.

If Mexico,EU & Japan want to eat horse - breed their own - I demand you stay away from American horse meat.

I don't know about Briton, but in the USA ALL aniimlas slaughered for human comsumption, cows. pigs, ALL, must be bleed out live. It is required by USDA - Check it out.

My deepest hope is that the bolt leaves the animal with not awareness of what is going on.

I'm not going Vegan becaue of this, I come from a long family history of hunting - my grandparents were fronteir people. But I am cutting down on beef as they, & energy, are pushing wild horses off their rightful range lands.

The act isn't the issue it's the process leading up to it.I would like to believe that we as humans have developed the ability to have compassion and empathy.it's what makes us human that we can rise above our animal instincts.I have two horses and they will never know this horror!Euthanasia translates to good death.This ain't it!

In nature preditors some times only take down there prey before eating it alive, most times they only kill is when there prey can harm them, at least with slaughter houses the animal is dead in this video the leg twitching is not a sign of life, but of the involentary musle movment that happens when brain function is suddenly turned off , you would do the same and still be just as dead

I am an equine veterinarian and let me tell you what the ban on horse slaughter has done... Horses are turned loose to range to starve... The other option is to ship these horses to Mexico and Canada where they are still slaughtered without the supervision of the USDA and EPA. The AAEP (American Association of Equine Practioners) is against the ban of horse slaughter. This should tell the general mis-informed public that horse slaughter is an unfortunate need of this country
