  • Wow I didn't know Avril wrote this song!! :O I love this song by Puffy!

  • love Avril Lavigne !!

  • Excellent vid.!! You have good sence!! From Puffy's land. Regard, Tomoya xx

  • Sucks puffy is singing it. i could picture avril singing it alot better.

  • said it before and i'll say it again, what matters (despite popular misconception) is who WROTE the song, yes thsi is Puffy singing it but avril wrote the song and gave it to them, avril was the original writer though so if you were ever to se a list of songs done by both avril and puffy....thsi song would NOT be on puffy;s list it would be on avril's.

  • So, in essence, one does not 'sell' a song to someone, but 'pitches' it to them. If successful, permission is granted to the label to use the song with compensation to the writer by way of royalties. The only time a writer actually sells a song is when they sign over all their rights to the song to another person. This happens when the writer is in a 'ghost writer' capacity. Writing credits in this case will belong to the owner of the rights to the song.

    Hope this helps.

  • 6. Label gets the song recorded and released

    7. writing credits appear in the album/single sleeve

    8. rights to the song belongs to the writer

    9. rights to the recording of the song belongs to the label.

E.g., if you are an ad firm and wants to use this song for an ad but want to record your own version of it, you will need to contact the writer's publisher for permission. If you want to use this particular recording by Puffy Ami Yumi, you need to contact label AND writer's publisher.

  • Ok, I see some confusion about the rights of the songwriter and the rights of the record label in the comments here. As a professional songwriter signed with Sony Music Publishing, I can tell you this :

    1. A writer or group of writers writes a song.

    2. An artiste or record label likes it and want to record it.

    3. Label contacts the publisher of the writer.

    4. Publisher negotiates an advance in the royalties and prepares the contract.

    5. Contract signed between label and publisher
