Super Metroid (3/5) - 14% speedrun in 0:27 by Saturn

This is a 14% (also known as "glitchless/legit low%") speedrun of Super Metroid, that aims to beat the game with the least amount of items possible if not using any major glitches such as out of room traveling, boss skipping etc. Because of the limited conditions in ammo and equipment, it also allows to show off alot of new and never before seen speed tricks and boss strategies I developed for this run exclusively, such as:

- Horizontal Bomb Jumping over the WS-Lake without collecting the Missile Pack:

...and much more. On top of that, it uses a very optimized route to avoid backtracking as much as possible. All this, finally allowed a game completion of only 0:27 minutes, which is the fastest time possible for this kind of run. I even managed to avoid entering the Pause Screen/Menu completely, except to switch off the Suit for the unavoidable Gravity Jump trick, making the run even more entertaining and faster in realtime.

Mainly recorded between July 2007 and January 2008, with a slight improvement added in July 2008 to escape the Big Metroid even faster (thanks to Cpadolf). And now finally decided to upload it here.

Part 3:
Entering Lower Norfair early by using the Gravity Jump trick to pass the deep lava lake. Defeating Ridley with a optimal strategy combined of all possible attacking forms, including Power Bombs. Heading to Draygon after that, and showing off many new strategies to quickly pass various rooms in Maridia, including a impressive Draygon quick-kill, all without Speed Booster.

@TheSuckerOfTheWorld: It would, slightly. But it looks more natural to enter Maridia in one go, so I chose to use the standard method at least in this run, for entertainment's sake and a change.

hey wen ur fighting draygon, how do u create that shield looking thing at the begginig of the fight?

By selecting Power Bombs, then charging and waiting until the shield appears. Works only with pure beams though, no combos.

ok from about 0.04-0.06 u do this backflip move. i have seen this so many times and rly want to know how to do it, and how much faster u can cross rooms with it. i have seen it mostly in rooms with spikes.

It's done by holding both, the jump and direction button in which you want to boost to immediately after taking damage. Good timing is important to make it work.

It's considerably faster especially in rooms with many small platforms.

Speed runs are fine. youve got to remember that people dont just pick up a game and suddenly start speedrunning, its after theyve completed the game to its fullest and want to explore other aspects and possibilities.

You mentioned killing Draygon in 2 rounds without the Speed booster. how does the booster affect anything? I haven't seen a single video that uses it.

I'm just curious. I don't have the time or patience to really attempt these TAS runs, but i'm still crazy impressed with your skill.
