10-16-2004. Preseason game featuring the new crop of Lakers: Caron Butler, Lamar Odom, Chris Mihm, Chucky Atkins, Jumaine Jones, Sasha Vujacic, and Rudy Tomjanovich. I'm not uploading this for entertainment value, but only as a sobering reminder of the roster only 5 yrs ago.

I like the talent on this team better than the next two seasons. The awful coaching situation and Kobe's injury devastated this admittedly fragile team.

And the thought of Caron for Kwame. Now that is sobering!

Trading Caron Butler for Kwame Brown was terrible move, but it all worked out for the best cause they got Pau Gasol.

@MrProtuber Lakers needed a Power Foward at that time, Butler was ready to be a free agent that season and Lakers knew he was going to walk so they gamble on trading him for Kwame.

@Synicaalescape They didnt get rid of him. For some reason (i guess Kobe being the most important one) they traded him to Wizards for Kwame Brown and Laron Profit. The same Kwame Brown they traded for Pau two seasons later.

Anyway, i rather have Artest than Butler. Yes, Caron is a better scorer, but why look for a scorer when you have Kobe, Pau and Odom on the same team?. Artest gives a lot on the defensive end while still able to produce on the other side of the court.
