This video continues the series by showing how the transmission works. The clutch turns the mainshaft of the transmission and the drive shaft turns the front sprocket. This video fills in the blanks in between.

  • these videos have helped me understand an engine alot more. i recently changed the air filter in my 250 and before i changed it it started easily and ran good. but since ive changed it it doesnt want to start hot or cold do you have any ideas on what might make it start better?. also when you turn it off and try and kick it straight away it is constantly flooding or smells fuely.

  • You sprayed the air filter with air filter oil?

There are 2 things I can think of is perhaps dirt got into the carb and it may need cleaned. You would need to take the carb off and blow out all the jets and holes with an air compressor. Also check the float level.

The second is if you sprayed it with oil or something perhaps it got too much and it's acting like a vaccum and not sucking in any air or very little air making it hard to start.

  • great video. also the clutch one too. any idea what would make a whole clutch assembly get stuck out when u pull the clutch in. only happens while motor is running with out it started you can pull the clutch 100 times never sticks open but start the bike and 40 sec into running u can pull it 5 or 6 times and the whole assembly will move out bout 1/8 inch and get stuck there thus not allowing the push rod touch the pressure plate anymore. u can take it apart and put it back then its fine.

  • Is it hard to replace a gear

I need a new first gear is it worth fixing

  • finally, somebody on you tube with a brain that can relay the correct information.

  • Excellent video! Very well done. Not only have I learned the basics of a transmission, I now know better than to take any of mine apart. A very valuable lesson that would have eventually cost me a tranny. ;)

  • nice video!

not using the clutch is defenetly not as good to your transmission, chain etc as using the it^^

for riding enduro highly controlled you need your clutch... so nothing really cool obout not using it exept at acceleration :D

  • Absolutely. It will make a grinding noise and you won't be able to shift into another gear without the clutch.

  • yah u can do it but when u do it make sure u dont hear any grinding or take it to a high RPM then shift it without using the clutch

  • I'm curious on this one as well. I think the common answer is that it does, but considering how SMOOTHLY and EFFORTLESSLY my Husky 250 shifts without the clutch, it seems like it would be pretty easy. Just remember to let the throttle off when you prod the shifter up. I've found that you can just apply constant pressure to the shifter, and change gear by putting the throttle to zero for a fraction of a second. Very fast acceleration goes along with this, too. :-)

  • Does not using the clutch when shifting up or down damage the transmission?
