im going to assume you already knew but for others who dont, the way you damage a speaker is by exceding what the speaker was meant to do ie sending it too much power causing coil rub, bottoming out and clipping. This is much easier to accomplish running free air since theres little resistance to the cone movement. a ported box does increase the resistance but you can put the most power into a sub in sealed boxes, even though it probably wont be louder sealed

no vabbè si può anche fare tanto non si rovina... se ordini solo il sub senza cassa e lo vuoi provare lo puoi provare anche così... io mi metto con il mio amplificatore a casa e testo tutto quello che voglio...........

Playing a sub in free air won't damage it as long s you don't send it a lot of power.

none of your moaners know what you are talking about. running a woofer out of a cabinet does not destroy it unless you run it beyond its mechanical limit. he is running that 12.00sw to close to its limit, but he'd have to go a little further to cause any damage. these things are professional grade woofers used in folded horn bass cabs. the real world xmax is about 12mm, and xmech is probably an inch or more.
