This is 7 song of 12 from the "Tragic Sons Of Life" CD that i will be uploading. I DO NOT OWN this song in any way the Louvin Brothers own it.

The louvins blew every ones mind with their tight, TIGHT harmonies in the same manner Cobain blew the music scene up with his amazing sound.

Interpretation of anything done with a true heart/soul will be stellar. For those of you below saying the louvins are shit don't understand what is involved in singing. And to quote a word from below, "douchbaggery" is most definitely involved for those who think this is crap. This brother duet was and still is the best at what they did!

Leadbelly heard the song "In The Pines" from a recording. Leadbelly did not write the song. He heard a 1925 recording from a 1917 interpritation of a traditional Southern Appalachian song. The author is unknown.

A great lullaby and a true classic in every sense of the word.

So......I mean, who really cares. I remember this song, whether it was Bill Monroe, The Stanley Bros. or the Louvin Bros, these were the versions I heard and knew, so I could care less if Leadbelly ever recorded it.

Bill Monroe recorded "In The Pines" in 1941. Leadbelly recorded, with the title usually either "Black Girl" or "Black Gal" in 1944, but the first rendition he recorded with the name "Where Did You Sleep Last Night".

Leadbelly did it WAY before Louvin Bros. The original song is "where did you sleep last night?" by leadbelly.

Grew up with this music, my mother was pure country, and you heard that in her voice as she sung. She was into harmony and could sing with anyone. The Louvin Brothers were among her favorite. I can't thank her enough for her love of just good music that I grew up with yes all the lyrics I seem to still rattle off today. xx

This tune is older than Leadbelly. Jimmie Rodgers recorded it in 1927 under the title "The Longest Train I Ever Saw". There are probably older recordings, too.

Leadbelly is the original right? This is the older cover I'm aware of. Obviously Cobain covered it. Link Wray also did too.
