@juggert Edwards clamp is a locking device that goes behind the nut - requires no allen keys. Can be clearly seen on my two video clips. The rights to the clamp were bought by Kramer and it's fate was sealed.
If you use a stock Strat tremelo then locking machine heads are the better option - with a bone nut. I find this lacking in initial attack though and my guitars were built to eradicate that I didn't want the clamp to replace the nut -hence the Edwards.
@petecockcroft if u dont mind me asking, what's an Edward's clamp bro ? (hopefully nothing twilight related :D).....and yeah i know what you mean by strats (or superstrats) have more dynamics than les paulish guitars....those humbuckers can be way too thick sometimes
Yeah mate. A pre-CBS Strat with a Tone-bender Mk11 and a JTM45 with ,funnily enough , a Wem 2x12 cabinet will give you those sounds. I used that in 1975.
I know what he means about the Les Paul. They are limited in the way that the maple-top takes-out nuances of the fingers. Likewise humbucker "voicing". When you want wide-open it has to be a Strat. Although the Trem-unit limits overall pick-attack by choking with 9's. Use 10's a Floyd and an Edward's clamp behind the nut to correct this.
I've been into Jeff Beck big-time lately. Love his tone on the "Jeff Beck Group" album. LOVE the Colorsound Overdriver sound (I have a Throbak Overdrive Boost, which is a killer, modified replica of the Colorsound unit). Also love the Tonebender MKII sound that Beck had on "Truth" and on his Yardbirds albums (I have a Sweet Sound Pro Bender for that stuff - Great pedal). Last night while playing out, I started playing "She's A Woman", and my bandmates actually picked up on it. Sounded awesome.
Hmm, nice bit of back pedaling since in in his interview in the June 2010 Guitar Player magazine he calls the Les paul a 'sissy' guitar. I dig you Jeff, but that's such a wanker thing to say after Gibson built a seven grand tribute guitar for you. Pull that Strat and you head out of your ass and give proper credit where credit is due
