They [S.M. County] have destroyed lives by the tens of thousands... How can we stop this?? I live in Berkeley and I am still under the pin of San Mateo Co. I can't even get my probation transferred to Alameda Co. I have a petty theft with a prior B.S. conviction!!! I'm no "master criminal" Why are they hell bent on destroying the very fabric of my being? I have no money left, they have taken everything. I can "voluntarily" commit myself to a few months in jail.....WHAT???? Please help!
@TaylorJ415 but that still doesn't undo the injustice you faced.. message me and let me know how it's affected your life and how oyu've over come. I'm going to start writing testimonials of people who've dealt with everything from small crimes to big crimes and I want to show people what it does to have a record regardless of the crime. I feel like if we expose enough of what's going on tthat's causing problems in the justice system maybe we can stop BG checks at least.
@TaylorJ415 AMEN BROTHER! i feel for the people trying to turn it around. It doesn't matter what you did in the past, it matters what you're doing now. But hey I have some hope for you. If you're a bay area resident east palo alto and san francisco county do not have the check box on their applications. It is illegal to have them on their applications. Their is always a job for the convicted because their are so many. Eventually someone will hire you.
@Gearsturfs Exactly!! My record is ruined because I stole a few things when I was young and now I have a theft jacket on my record. All because of some twisted A.DA who wants to get as many convictions as she can without any regard to whose life she's screwing over. It this were San Francisco, THIS IN-justice would NOT happen.
@albertslink2010 Non violent offenders should ALL be let go. If you stole a beer and a sandwich, you should be made to pay the cost of the beer and sandwich and nothing more. And PROBATION is so extreme in this county that it prevents people from leading productive lives
The so called "justice" of San Mateo County is a joke. If it was San Francisco County, AT LEAST HALF of the people in San Mateo Co. jail WOULD NOT BE THERE!!! This screwed up county prides itself on incarcerating people who have NO BUSINESS BEING IN JAIL. The DA's are sick, twisted people hell bent on destroying peoples lives. I have seen this first hand. How are these people (now with a record because of this ultra-punitive system) supposed to get a job? You bastards should be ashamed!!
also it might help to stop background checks for non violent offenders, that way it won't be so hard to get a job for those who try to do something different when they get out. the answer isn't building more rooms it's changing the way we behave towards people. These are human beings! they mess up, and their are large amounts of people who mess up and aren't punished, but the ones who are shouldn't be punished, but corrected, your correctional officers for goodness sakes!
