@FdNy8231 If we don't think we can control it with the companies assigned, we'll go ahead and call for more companies and set up staging. Even a medic unit can call for extra companies or a second alarm. Althougth initially it may be dispatched as a Standby 2nd. It becomes a working 2nd when companies from the 2nd actually become engaged in fire ops. Always interesting to hear how others do it. We can also have a Standby 3rd or 4th, but usually by then the I/C knows what they need.

I love how people try and tell firefighters how do their job . Dont they know that they train all the time for these situations and that it takes time to set up and get the hoses up the stairs which i am sure are filled with smoke and you cant see 2 feet in front if you

"wheres te water? The fire been burning for 10mins". Lady if you want to mask up hook a hydrant drag hose packs up four stories an get a stable water pressure faster then them, then get real.

Doubtful will hold - The chief is doubtful the fire can be controlled with units already assigned, more may be needed.

Probably will hold - The chief probably can control the fire with units assigned.

Will hold - Self explanatory but rarely if ever used.

Under control - Self explanatory.
