Agreed, and the next question is, how many of those taking orders, would actually use those weapons of mass destruction against U.S. civilians? Certainly some would, but I'm no so sure they ALL would.

In 1776 civilians had better weapons then the military (rifles vs. muskets). Now unless you have a Class A Federal Firearms permit, you cant own a weapon that compares to the military. Even with a Class A, you cant own grenades or rockets.

They now have full-auto grenade launchers with smart fuses that will air burst right over your head. Its only going to get better for the government while we are stuck with 20th century weaponry. Could we have won independence with pike and arquebus?

100 million guns in the hands of private citizens gives them reason for pause, even with their tanks and fighter jets etc. They may not outright "fear", but it gives them something to think about. They don't even want to have to do that, so therefore more and more restrictions on the 'type' of gun one can own, and who may own one. It is a potential problem they don't want to have to deal with.

Unfortunately the truth is the Government does not fear our guns. Firepower wise and defensively, they can suppress a mass uprising if they really needed to. People fear guns and want the government to fix the problem. Either way the government still has the upper hand.
