6

As I look back on the rivers which have brought me to this space
Broken bridges spanning them with beauty and with grace
I can see the sparkling pattern in the tentacles of time
As they reach across the waters of the palaces of rhyme

Those rivers flow with purpose through the forest to the sea
With tributary torrents making waves inside of me
They cannot be resisted -- they can never be denied
We can only plunge into them with the current as our guide

And the sea to which those waters flow
Can't help but make my wonder grow
At all the ocean-buried treasures I now find
Six times ten years down the line

We cannot push the river, as the sages said of old
Cannot make it take us where the streets are paved with gold
If we trust that it will get us to just where we need to be
We will find a longboat with two oars connected to the quay

The first time that I knew this I had water in my eyes
Not enough to make a sea of silvery liquid sighs
But enough to make a river which could lead me through the dark
Terrifying tidal waves which haunt my aching heart

And the sea to which those waters flow
Can't help but make my wonder grow
At all the ocean-buried treasures I now find
Six times ten years down the line

I never thought I'd find you -- thought I'd used up all my rain
Thought I'd paid the price for swimming upstream hydroplane
But the river brought you to me, one I made with my own tears
Mingled with the ones from you which overcame your fears

Now I don't know where it's going but I'm riding on the tide
Sitting on white horses openhearted and wide-eyed
There's a star on the horizon which was born from all our dreams
Dust and fire and raw desire dissolving in blue streams

And the sea to which those waters flow
Can't help but make my wonder grow
At all the ocean-buried treasures I now find
Six times ten years down the line
