Named after a villeage in Tarawa, Kiribati (ex Gilbert Islands). It was buid the traditional way, without using a single nail. The planks are secured with coconut rope. It sailed against the prevailing winds 2700 kilometers to Fiji, proving Thor Heyerdahl wrong. It can be admired today in the New Zealand Maritime Museum.

  • It is the audio not my computer. I had seen this when my uncle was alive, He was the captain of this Baurua. Wow this really brings tears to my eyes. I love this village and especially the people of Taratai. Thank you for posting it.
