Tornado visible between lightning flashes starting at around 3:00 mark to 3:30 mark over the trees, left side of video in University Park, Texas moving right to left in camera frame on the evening of May 24, 2011. Funnel becomes visible at the 2:00 mark but easiest to see after 3:00. In the video you can hear the Dallas and University Park tornado sirens. I only had enough time to set up the camera, then head downstairs to safety. Only hoped to see hail and got a tornado instead!

  • Did you get hail or rain? if you got hail can you tell me what size?

  • @lochadkat

Yes. This storm had egg sized hail in it at my house. You can see some of it knocking leaves off the tree in the foreground. I originally only set up the camera to record what I thought would be a massive hailstorm. I ended up with the funnel cloud instead. The hail core of this storm damaged many cars to the west at Love Field Airport. Many cars were heavily damaged and missing windows.

  • I was watching WFAA coverage of this storm on the internet at my house in Memphis, TN

  • @Mocaluos

WFAA has received quite a bit of flak from the public in regards to their storm coverage. The opted to show the Dancing With The Stars finale instead of multiple tornadoes in the immediate DFW area. Delkus did not deliver! Problem was easily solved with a click of the remote to any other channel, including Univision.

  • God I hope everyone was ok

I believe there was one fatality from this particular tornado which the National Weather Service rated an EF-0. The weakest of tornado strengths on a scale of 1-5. The victim stepped on some live power lines in the Oak Lawn area, I believe.

  • @refidnasb1 You also just explained to me why I was watching them just show the weather radar with the NWS voice over and not an actual WFAA meteorologist going on air and analyzing the weather.

  • @refidnasb1 I appreciate the reply aparently I don't know how your stations handle tornado coverage down there but here WMC pre-empted the last 15 minutes of Oprah for tornado coverage so they plan reair the show in it's entirety tommorrow afternoon.

  • I live in Allen we almost got one near us but it died

  • I live in Carrollton...seems every year it keeps getting worse. When I heard the sirens, man, I wa freaking out.

  • @Gabby24hrs

    Neighborhood near Southwestern and Hillcrest.

  • God, it was so eerie that night when the sirens were going off. Reminded me of Twister when I was at Sonic south of the hook echo
