I've bought some canned goods that weren't supposed to expire until 2014 but I opened one up today and it went bad. Any tips on how to prevent this from happening again? They were only a fe w months old.

I wish that I had started at least a year ago... But not I see the urgency of it all.
I have a few pistols and need ammo... Now I want to get an M-4 rifle.
It's coming.. and it will make the crash of 1929 look like a picnic.

I suggest just buying more of what you eat everyday instead of things you never ate before. Crisis would be the worst time to learn that the only thing you've got left to eat causes gastric disorder. I use the "first-in first-out" supplies method - I stack items of the same type (ex. bags of pasta) one by one on the shelf and I always pick the one on the most-right when I need to eat one. And put the new ones I've bought on the most-left side. So I always have fresh supplies due to rotation.

Dude if you don't know what Lea & Perrins Worcestershire Sauce is, you haven't lived!
I use it in some cooking all the time. It's fantastic with rice (especially home made fried rice), and you can use it with pretty much anything.
It only needs like 3 drops for a whole meal, it's strong stuff. I keep a bottle in my BOB
