Rare view, heron spear and swallow prey. Here a wild great blue heron, one of largest bird in US, hunts, strikes, spears, and swallows a live fish whole. Video also shows another rare view, a heron and an egret together in the same tree, overlooking a river.

Shows the heron remaining motionless and then hunting and stalking prey. Also shows it in flight. it is quite amazing how it can swallow a fish whole. It takes several sips of water to wash the wrangling, live fish down its throat. The birds seem human-like because with their neck extended, they are the height of some people.

The video also shows the difference between a heron and an egret. In the video, both are in the same tree. The Egret is a type of heron, that usually has milky white plumes. The great egret is the world's largest egret.

The great blue heron (Ardea herodias) is a wading bird living in North and Central America. It is the largest North American heron with a length up to 54 inches and a wingspan of 71 inches. It can weigh up to 8 lbs. It is a beautiful blue-grey with black flight feathers, and red-brown thighs. The lower neck feathers are long and plume-like. It develops plumes on its lower back during breeding season.

It usually forages while standing in water. It may stand in one place for hours, then strike a fish, but it may also drop from the air into the water for a fish. It prefers shallow water and feeds during both day and night, but prefers dawn and dusk. It wades with its long legs and spears fish or frogs with its long sharp bill. It eats small rodents, fish, shoreline animals, and invertebrates. It usually breeds in colonies known as a heronry.
