The cold and damp weather that had been bedeviling New Orleans for weeks has finally broken, and on Saturday the Treme Sidewalk Steppers, one of the city's many Social Aid & Pleasure Clubs, held a second-line that began at the African American Museum of Art and History in Treme. A huge crowd filled Governor Nicholls Street as, precisely at noon, the Rebirth Brass Band began blowing. The Sidewalk Steppers—in matching gold linen shirts and pants, black-and-gold sashes, black alligator shoes, and black homburgs—came dancing down the museum's steps and out into the street.
