  • See SWToR isnt that bad, its small areas outside the main area, mainly for some of the direct story like class questing and generally the main planet questline. But see WoW did large open areas, phasing out people who either did some event against those who didnt do said event. I hated being phased out because me or my friend completed something. Tho I dont mind the private instances they do in class quests for SWToR. Cynthx, are you on SWToR, yet?

  • @ArisShadows I tried SWToR and came to the decision that it just wasn't for me. I'm used to big, open worlds with beautiful environments and surprise NPCs to encounter in addition to the story quests. I like exploring :3

  • What does instanced mean? Sorry, despite your efforts to make me a gamer, I'm still not qualified.

  • @roberttomoguchi yea, what matthew said :) Imagine people having to go use the subway, but there's a loading screen when you descend, and everyone had their own subway because they had to go to different places. Sort of like that. :3

  • If it wasn't for the word limit, I could've fit all this into one post.lol

In any case, the worlds tend to get much bigger from Tatooine onward. Hoth, in particular, is absolutely gigantic. Alderaan is huge, as well. With the exception of Quesh and Ilum, the planets beyond Tatooine easily dwarf the starter worlds, and even Dromund Kaas/Coruscant (the faction capitals).

That said, it isn't, and never will be, "SWG sandbox big" - which I guess was what really pulled you in.:\ C'est la vie.

  • As for how instancing affects SWTOR's ability to provide "open" worlds - I am going to (perhaps foolishly) assume you did not make it to Tatooine (which is about the 4th planet in for Empire, and I think the same for Republic, so about lvl 24+). Having just come from Balmorra on the Empire side, I was not expecting much out of it - but one look at the massive expanse of the Dune Sea was enough to make me realize I was a bit shortsighted.

  • It sounds like - as of the time of this video - SWTOR is probably not for you, and it seems you realize that, as well.

Instancing is an acquired taste. It shrinks the world, somewhat, but it also adds a great deal to personal story immersion. Being able to affect the world - even in a personal instance - gives a greater sense of investment to a player. In order to keep that investment from hindering the experience of players that do not want it changed, instancing is about the only option.

  • instance mmo. ya that sux, your right i think they are trying to save money.. this is happening in diablo3 , they also do this to split the loot so everyone isnt competing for the same gear when it drops i think.. also, your pretty you dont need make up have you played guild wars?

  • @bertmollar Err 2 months old. Typo.

  • @Lokim23 I agree. I am even building a new PC to experience the worlds they have created. This game is less than a month old, give it time. I hear they are working on scaling UI and I have heard rumors of perhaps a macro engine which would be great.

  • @cynthx The question is.. did you even get to level 50? The worlds are quite beautiful, with the right graphics cards/computers. And as for World PVP, it greatly exists in SWTOR.

When going from 7 years raiding of WoW to SWTOR yeah.. its alittle difficult for me.. but.. I am open minded and see that, its a great game and has a chance.

As for instanced MMO's.. yeah, instances are a way to keep order, because millions of casuals cry about it. It is the future of Mmo's.

  • Diablo3 needs to release like yesterday so i can get back to my roots in the diablo, which has been my gaming bread and butter since I was like 8.

  • So far I have yet to play an MMO I enjoy. Blizzard has come the closest though to a enjoyable one for me. But I hate turn based combat. Bores the piss out of me nor do I care to grind all day. Diablo is more my game or a cool free MMO but total shit world is Vindictus. Plus all I'll also say this is odd I have seen a rise of female gamers blogging on youtube. I still say most female toons running around in games are gay dudes LOL!

  • @cynthx So what games are you planning on playing in the future? Have you checked out Tera?
