@franticfury Apparently this wasn't an option, due to the fact the teams did not bring their road-course/short oval wings to the TMS that weekend. This was put forward as a reason in "Rapid Resonse" by Stephen Olvey.

@franticfury it was always true really. Was only a matter of time. The 2012 Indycar would have fixed a lot of the issues but Dan Wheldon didn't make it that far =(

@franticfury that would have created pack racing, which doesn't work on open wheel cars.... as Indycar recently finally found out.

This whole mess could have been avoided if CART had done it's homework properly and properly tested at this track before the race, there is nobody to blame but CART and at the end of the day they made the right decision to call the race before a driver got seriously injured or worse....

A good solution was to just put a higher downforce wing configuation on the cars to slow them down, not a superspeedway config with the hansford device...
