tragedy has returned to Eastern Uganda a year and a half since hundreds died in a similar incident in Bududa. At around 2 o'clock this morning torrential rains triggered catastrophic landslides in Bulambuli district with 29 people so far confirmed dead. Residents fear at least 35 people may have been killed in the devastating mudslides.
Sisiyi and Buluganya Sub Counties have been hardest hit with the village of Namwidisi has reportedly been completely submerged in mud. Rescue and recovery efforts have been hampered by the lack of equipment. Currently locals are using hoes, spades, and in certain cases sticks to dig out the bodies.
