calling this a "rant" is slightly hyperbolic

I grew up around these type of lunatics. I'm STILL trying to reverse the damage. They are mentally ill and pathologically selfish assholes. You are always wrong when they speak to you. They know what's best for you and if you attempt to to deviate from their deranged fantasy world you are to be ridiculed and ostracized. And threatened with eternal burning. I wish this "rapture" of their's would happen already, just so we can finally relax.

Poor dumb kid. "Follow me because you want to love me or burn forever" is a gun to the head and not something a rational and loving god would come up with. It really is no different from someone holding a loaded gun and saying "I really do love you, you know, and I don't want to shoot you in the head, but I will if you don't tell me you love me and MEAN it. I don't want you to to say you love me just because I'm going to kill you if you don't"
Seriously, it's like a crazy person talking.

@cvanunen if you are the same, and everything around you is the same, and all the events of your life unfold in the same way, and you are the subject perceiving it all unfold....how is it NOT you?
the creature that you self-identify as "you"--cvanunen--has existed before and will exist again...and again and again. The interval of time between then and now--now and then--is entirely irrelevant.

@eleutheromaniac If lets say in 230 billion years from now through sheer probability, every single atom in my body managed to find and reassemble itself, how exactly would that be me?
-
@cvanunen All physical reality has determinant properties, even the most complex systems on Earth and the Earth itself.
Believing the universe could not re-create those self-same properties given an infinite amount of time is simply delusional.
Eternal, dreamless sleep is a comforting fantasy, but one too ridiculous and anti-scientfic for me to ever believe in: Ex nihilo nihil fit.

@eleutheromaniac While you clearly won the argument with papermermaid, your belief that Poincare's recurrence theorem could somehow relate to the same human, body, mind, personality etc constantly reforming is as far fetched as any religion. If that is what you believe. We live, we learn (some of us), we love, we die. If that's too hard to accept than there's religion to comfort you, but recurrence theorems....no.

Chad! Please find this video and reply to this comment. The fun I could have with you. You are a special little fella.

I love that he threw parking enforcement people in with Hitler and Gadaffi.
The more intelligent you become the less sense religion makes.
