As a addendum to your history please note that the US Navy was in Cam Ranh in April or May of 1964 with the Seaplane tender USS Pine Island (AV-12) along with an aircraft from Patrol Squadron 48 (VP48) I was a member of the flight crew (Crew 12) of that aircraft. Why we were there was classified "Secret" at the time.
