To see her latest photos, go to http://gallery.me.com/asifakis#100085 .The building of a reptile habitat for a 5 foot Black Throated Monitor. This enclosure is located in Southern California, so the winters are moderate. It took a 4 days to build and cost around $1200 (sand was most of the cost). There is a pig blanket in there for heat in colder temps and a water pump in the pool to help keep algae from growing in between water changes. We have a remote thermometer that tells us the temp in the enclosure and we have a heat lamp that is put in there when the temperature drops suddenly. Hope this answers most questions.

  • is an 8ft long and 4 ft wide and 4 ft tall enclosure long enough for a black throat monitor

  • @lukeebear47 It should be but it depends on a few factors. How big the monitor is, how much time it gets outside of its enclosure and how active it is. But in general that is a nice sized enclosure.

  • you feed your black throat dog food?

  • @aw8one No, it is a specific food made for monitor's you can buy it at reptile stores, it's called "monitor food". You hydrate it with warm water, let it sit and then serve it.... she loves it and I don't have to run out for rats all the time.

  • how much did it cost to build tht

  • @shanescool1 read the introduction, it explains EVERYTHING.. : )
