Paul Gunter, Beyond Nuclear joins Thom Hartmann. There is troubling news out of Japan - where there's now more signs now that the Fukushima nuclear crisis is still ongoing. Sludge samples taken from Tokyo Bay reveal that radioactive cesium contamination has increased in some areas by 13-times since measures were taken last August. Health officials claim the radiation levels pose no immediate risk to the population - but could get worse as contaminated fish filled with radioactive isotopes travel up the food chain into the world's restaurants and dinner tables. Meanwhile, in the United States - the Associated Press is reporting that nuclear regulators have quietly watered-down US planning for nuclear emergencies. Despite nuclear plants all around the nation ageing beyond their recommended operational lives - nuclear regulators have reduced evacuation zones around them, required fewer exercises for accidents, and relaxed training for emergency officials. In other words, we're less prepared today to deal with a nuclear disaster than we were before Fukushima happened.

This in not Japan, or Russia. Yes, Three mile Island was The Worst Case Scenario. What happened??? Nothing! except a multi million dollar reactor was encased in concrete.

San Onofre should stay closed; it's always the unexpected that happens.

No, we WANT science not speculation. Problem is, "science" these days, as funded by our tax dollars, is done by the corporations on their own products. So all we have to rely on are these knowledgeable independents who are doing the best they can with their little non-profits. Send them some money so they can do some real research! Do your own research for god's sake. Go to college, get a degree, and tell us the truth please! Or at least stop complaining.

Even after we put all these reactors permanently out of commission, there's still mountains of radioactive debris to deal with. We're fukked.

No immediate threat because cancer takes time to develop. There is an immediate threat of getting a high enough dose to cause cancer later.
