We always talk about water purification , but would the Steripen be used to purify other liquids, like alcohol for a wound for example?, or is alcohol already sterile in any possible case, do you know?

Yup! Good stuff! I use the same Katadyn filter and tabs. Works great. Never had a problem. But it helps when the water starts out really good! But I will usually boil the water anyways That is the safest way :o)Some of our water here doesn't need anything ...believe it or not !!

How is this SteriPen classic working out with the Ni-MH rechargables? i have been intrested in the Classic for that very reason you mentioned, and the solar charger

@WisconsinEric , I never trust the NiMh. I always use Ultimate Lithiums. Expensive, but worth it.

what would happen if you dropped the steripen in to the bottle im guessing its not water proof?

@nanashi1o3 , The battery cap and switch are "water resistant"(there appears to be a pretty good gasket) so, I guess if you dropped it in and removed it quickly you would be ok. The manufacturer knows this is going to be used around water and accidents happen. The key here I think is you have to react quickly.

Yes, it's true that viruses can be as small as 20 nanometers, MUCH smaller than the .3 micron filter. However, you forget that viruses are not free-living; they live within larger host cells, such as bacteria, which are caught in the filter.

@nelson149 , That is really interesting. I have never heard that before. Do you have a reference that describes this?
