I'll take you down to that bright city mile ---
there to powder your sweet face and paint on a smile,
that will show all of the pleasures and none of the pain,
when you join my explosion
and play with my games.
WarChild dance the days, and dance the nights away.
No unconditional surrender; no armistice day ---
each night I'll die in my contentment and lie in your grave.
While you bring me water and I give you wine ---
let me dance in your tea-cup and you shall swim in mine.
WarChild dance the days, and dance the nights away.
Open your windows and I'll walk through your doors.
Let me live in your country --- let me sleep by your shores.
WarChild dance the days, and dance the nights away.

  • The song appears to be anti-war. "Open your windows and I'll walk through your doors. Let me live in your country-let me sleep by your shores." Although written in 1974, Ian's words support the beliefs of those who want our soldiers to come home. It is saying the military tends to be excessive and overstays its welcome.

  • eines von vielen unvergesslichen Meisterwerken der Rockgeschichte dieser Band!!

  • I was probably too young to appreciate this album when I bought it. I thought "Bungle in the Jungle" was so cool. But this, and Q&C, and Ladies and 3d Hoorah...

  • I remember seeing this in concert. It was incredible. They had some type of fx none of had seen in our technically small venue. It stunned everyone for a few seconds, but it was SO well received once everyone processed what it was. Still gives me chills.

1974 was a year of great turmoil in Viet Nam with the fall of Saigon in April 30, 1975. Operation Eagle Pull in Cambodia about 3 weeks earlier to get the US troops and allies out. Scary times.

  • This was a full 5 years before Pink Floyd's The Wall, which had a recurring theme of war. Sorry Roger, Ian beat ya to it.

  • IE, immigration policies, recovering from Cuban missile crisis, even more tension on the Berlin Wall, Cold War, etc...

But mostly about the massive influx of "banana-boaters" and their refugee kids - "warchild".

However, like everyone's arsehole (opinion) mine stinks as much as yours.

  • @marktull what a load of shit, marktull...

Don't you know any history from the UK 70's?

  • @MusicIsDeadToday all you get with governments are sirens and guns

  • I just wanted to hear some Tull but it looks as tho some warpigs got involved and to the ignorant one I 'd settle for being an enlightened X addict than to keep wallowing in my ignorance

  • Long live Ian Anderson.....Long Live Jethro Tull!

  • 3 people smell like ranch dressing
