Three cassette machines were inverted - their fragile inner components exposed on a skeleton of pulverised plastic casings and cable bundles. The result appears like a grammophone speaker, a ships funnel, or indeed, an elephant. The cassettes, with a little human intervention, record and play back the audio environment simultaneously. There are no erase heads, so each sound remains - erased partially by any new sound. In this sense, the audio acts as a kind of evolving memory. Filmed at the McLellan Galleries, Glasgow School of Art, 2009.
