Does anyone know how long the brain zaps last?? I' on day 4 without any Effexor (150mg cold turkey and they're ultra annoying).

No dizziness or nausea which is wierd because even if I miss a dose I usually feel sick straight away.

Hi OrthodoxDarwinist....hmmm, given your user name, I WOULD say the lack of dizziness and nausea is a blessing from Heaven above, lol. Been four years since I went off Effexor. Not successful when I tried to stop cold. I was in withdrawal so bad that my husband had to stay home from work and take care of me. I think I made it about six days before they had to put me back on the crap. 6 days - still had brain zaps.

If you do a search and use the query "How long do Effexor brain zaps last" or "Brain Shivers", you will find a LARGE amount of opinions, info and experiences of others, as well as some interesting facts about how and why we experience them. Try the Ask.com search engine. Breaking News: They have a NAME for this! (Rolls EYES!) : "SSRI Discontinuation Sundrome". (FFS)

PS: Most doctors just wanna cover their arse and want you to stay on it.

I hate it, but what you say, as much as it sucks, is the truth. I'm really lucky because my psychiatrist has known me and my family since I was a teenager. I'm 43 now, and still see him. He was not the dr. who put me on that Effexor bullshit. When he found out it had been prescribed to me, he was not too happy. Wow, you kinda opened up a whole other aspect of this topic that I will have to flesh out on paper now, and vlog about later. --XO

good for you. your body/brain will be all the better for it. it's scary how they throw meds like effexor at people these days. they prescribe ssri's for damn near everything now. those pharmaceutical reps have the docs convinced that it's good for children too. it will be tomorrow's big 'what the hell were we thinking?' besides potentially modulating your serotonin sites permanently, effexor is hard on the liver. yet they continue to prescribe them more than they ever have.

I was on Effexor for about 4 years taking 3 75 mgs a day. I went cold turkey to get off. I didn't stop all at once but started cutting my dosage down from 3 pills a day to 2 the 1 then started skipping days until I finally got off. Its just like you said you can't stop all at once but you can get off of it.

I once forgot to take my meds (inc. Effexor) on a camping trip. Was not fun. Ended up in hospital for a month.

In Jan 2012 I went cold turkey from Paxil & Xanax. It was the worst withdrawal that I pray know one will every have to go through. PLEASE don't start taking these medications.

When I came off the drug I felt all the pain, anxiety, stress, frustration that was covered up over the 3yrs I was on it.

The medicine DOES NOT make the pain go away. It makes life worst.

sorry this is my sons you tube account. I,m actually a mother of four. In uk it's called venlafaxine and its in pill form not capsules so you can,t break open it and take out the grains. I,m now in the process of vomiting copiously for over a week, and on anti sickness tablets. This is cos my gp said it can caused by liver damage. And I got to do a blood test now. Brain zaps can be helped by omega three.good luck to all out there coming off this drug.

Hi there, yes I have been completely 100% off Effexor for about 4 months or so now.

It's strange in that whenever I even missed a dose I would get extreme nausea, but when I quit cold turkey off 150mg/daily all I got was brainzaps which lasted about 1.5 weeks.

I think I was just lucky.

Also I'm a student so I can afford to take time off and do nothing, which helped. It's would be hard to work full-time while going through withdrawals.
