Yes, but "stretching the mind further" you mean investigate further and more deeply, then that too will require evidence to support whatever perceived truths are unveiled. I never said truth was simple or difficult, truth is truth, not big truth or simple truth or absolute truth. Truth is a claim supported by evidence, that's how I describe it.

  • @benaberry so by your own definition of truth if one sees an apple drop from the tree... one perceives the law of gravity being simply illustrated based on evidence and sense.... however if one was to stretch the mind further the law of gravity may not be as simple.. but a time warp of quantum physics. truth is not as simple as you think your world view maybe

I do not remember the exact quote; my apologies. He presented a hypothetical where, if an "Islamic Fundamentalist" nation were to become nuclear capable, America would be compelled to a pre-emptive strike, and we ought to be absolved of all blame. William Cavanaugh discusses it in his lecture on religious violence here on youtube; (I'd suggest watching the lecture)

  • my highlight of this video was when lennox explains that the God of the gaps assertion by many atheists is by NO means an argument for the atheistic view but that christians explains scientifically what we dont know from what we know from Gods perspective... i like to further exemplify that Galaleo Galalei (the founding father of science, who by the way was a theist) opened up the scientific scope by publishing the discovery of the moons on jupiter..

truth is what we deem makes the most sense based on the evidence we have at the time. Truth claims are supported by evidence and stand up to scrutiny, observation and repeatability.

  • @benaberry what is truth?

  • @MCulpa Can you give me some examples?

  • @am101171

Sam Harris has said some pretty scary stuff though, especially right after 9/11. :(

  • Thanks for your opinion John, doesn't lead to any truth.
