  • There are two reasons why she "pulls those faces". The first is that the positioning of the jaw, lips and tongue help to produce the beautiful sound and her famously crystal-clear diction; and the second is that, in a big opera theatre, many singers expressions, at a distance, seem as blank as a plank ... big expressions allow the viewer to see the acting from way back in the theatre. Bartoli is wonderful.

    Le "show Bartoli" est enervant

  • I really admire her she is perfect!

  • Really? your commenting on faces? REALLY?! you can't ignore a facial expression for five seconds to realize this is the most passionate and most brilliantly executed version of this aria on all of youtube and that you'd probably never be so lucky in your life to experience such perfection in a live performance?!

  • @aaronjanke Agreed. It's off putting. Many opera singers who are better than her do not make these ridiculous faces.

  • I love how everyone is defending her ridiculous faces! She's got a beautiful voice AND her faces make people laugh. You can't ignore them or act like they are necessary for singing or stage acting, because they aren't, but you can just accept that what she does is unique and entertaining. Ha!

  • It wasn't until the middle of the video that I went WOW.

  • grazie

    bravi

  • She can make what ever faces she damn well pleases, those runs are the most amazing runs I`ve ever heard in my life.

  • @fringelily I've always wondered that, thanks very much for the explanation!!!!! :)

  • Cecilia is fantastic! She is absolutely amazing and wonderful!
