It's mandated in the Constitution - every ten years we must count the number and location of the people living within the US so that we can have fair and equitable representation in Congress. But it's more that that - the census numbers also determine the amount of state and federal funding communities will receive. Information from the census helps shape decisions for the next ten years about public health, neighborhood improvements, transportation, education, senior services, and the list goes on. On the next Another View we'll talk about the 2010 Census - what it means, why we do it, and why it is critical that you participate. Plus, we'll find out about the Best Kept Secret in Hampton Road. Join us for Another View, Friday, January 15 at 9P on WHRO-TV.

  • You should teach people that the Constitution calls for the Government to ENUMERATE the population every 10 years. We do not even have to comply or assist in ANY way.

Also, the census is supposed to be used to ensure the House is grown as to provide REPRESENTATION based on population.

We haven't had an increase in the size of the house since 1913.

Federalist #51 promised the Rep to Citizen Ratio would be around 1:30,000. We're now around 1:700,000.

    Is that really representative government?

  • Thank you for this info. I am teaching a unit on the US Census.
