  • Nice - not sure I would want to run my old CS at 300 r/m though - not sure the con rod dipper will do its job turning so slow -400 maybe - what do you recon - could it be an issue?

  • @trevortrevortsr2 I set this engine up as an experiment for using alternative fuel. The question of rpm came up so I started running it slower. I now have almost 1,000 hours at slow speed. No sign of problems so far.

I do question the cooling of my automotive alternator at this slow of a speed though, but I only set the charge at 30 amps and watch it closely.

  • Mr. Bodell,

Did you have to make modifications to the timing to keep the engine running at 300 rpm.?

Forgive me I'm new to these engines.

Every reduction of RPM by 50% increases engine life ~400%.

    Thanks

  • @sumosamuri no changes to timing

  • You need to put up some new videos

  • @mrfirewolf VM diesels are quite good and have powered my Rovers for many years (no pesky timing belts to snap on these!) In some applications they were not 100% (Range Rover for example) but this was IMHO due to bad plumbing, undersized radiator, a crappy viscous coupled fan and no separate oil cooler.

  • Listeroid, never heard of one. Thought it was listerine for hemoroids.

  • @mrfirewolf Tell me about it.. I had a small generator that lasted for about 6 months. I only used it moderately for power tools and never stressed it out.. It just gave up. Most stuff is not built to last anymore. I hear these listeroids are good if a few simple things are done like making sure all the casting sand is completely cleared from the internals.

  • fuel consumption... roughly about 9.8345623 years a gallon... give or take a few minutes lol.... have to love the old listers very dependable and cheap to run... kinda sucks that nothing like that will ever be made.. todays engines aint worth a shit.
