This is the first in a series of cooking videos presented by the ISKCON Toronto Blog.

"Cooking for Krishna" will feature cooking demonstrations and recipes for sumptuous vegetarian items which we offer to Lord Krishna. Once offered, these preparations become "prasadam", or sanctified food!

In this first video our cook, Shashank Parkhi along with his wife Satyabhama devi dasi, shows us how to make a wonderful winter soup, mashed potatoes and buttered vegetables.

  • Looks nice though, I thought Hare Krishna did not eat spicy foods?

  • The main diet for Hare Krishnas is healthy vegetarian items! :o) The level of spice is entirely up to the cook. Certainly, we don't encourage you to cook with TOO much spice! :o)

  • Thank u for this delicious dish we need more recipes here. Hare Krsna!

  • We're glad you enjoyed the video. We have also uploaded our second episode of Cooking for Krishna and are currently working on Episode 3!

  • Thank you for your video, Hare krishna :-) Tea108

You dont need to give up meat to love Krishna. Many Hindus eat meat and Hinduism allows meat as well as veg. - as per the scriptures itself.

It's only some sects of Vaishnavas and of course Hare Krishnas that do not allow it. If you ever need resources feel free to email me.

I'm not telling you to eat meat or be a veg, that is your choice but just informing you about Vedic religion. Wish you the best in your spiritual journey.

  • @MrUbercool007 Ah right, thanks for the response.

  • @SebbeSucksBawlz , U can't throw away food offered to GOd...You eat it as a blessing :-)

  • I'm not very educated on Hare Krishna, so just out of interest, what do you eventually do with the food that you offer to Krishna? Eat it yourself or throw it away?

  • @lennonfan1981 When I read your comment I had to respond. I had the EXACT same fear and concern. Before changing my diet I read the Bhagavad Gita and chanted the mantra. Go on to LA HK Temple site for daily lectures. Visit your local HK temple. Everything else will fall into place. I read the "The Higher Taste". The recipes are very easy (I can't cook) and tasted amazing. Contact me if you need any support what so ever, I have been through your situation.

  • @lennonfan1981 Thank you for the wonderful feedback! If you are looking for more resources about how to lead a delicious vegetarian diet, let us know!

  • Is vegetable stock simply a powder and water mix from the shop? or is there a fresh way of doing this?? thankyou
