Watson Clinic's gynecology department has added a new procedure available for permanent birth control called Essure, which can be performed in a doctor's office in less than an hour.
During the procedure, small flexible micro-inserts are placed into the fallopian tubes by way of the body's cervix. Over a period of three months, the body and the inserts work together to form a natural barrier that prevents the sperm from meeting the egg.
Additional benefits of Essure include: * Essure doesn't involve hormones or incisions * It can be performed in the doctor's office without the need for general anesthesia. It may also be performed in the Outpatient Surgery Center. * Most women experience little to no downtime and can resume their regular activities within 24 to 48 hours after having the Essure procedure. * Essure has been FDA-approved and in-use for over five years. * Essure is 99.80 percent effective based on four years of follow up, with zero pregnancies in clinical trials.
This procedure is also performed by most of the OB/GYN doctors at Watson Clinic. Essure is not reversible and may not be appropriate for every woman.
