It was not uncommon in the ancient world for family member and "friends" to hire professional mourners to come out and throw fantastic pity parties for the deceased.
In Mark 5 Jairus' daughter is pronounced dead and the professional mourners were in the house doing what they to do.
In comes Jesus and crashes the party by boldly declaring "she's not dead, but sleeping"!
