  • this video was the most helpful i have found. i still had a couple of questions though. when you first pick up your second color what do you do with the tail? do you knot it off or weave it in? and if you are working in a stockinette stitch do you still need to purl as they did in the videos. i am guessing not.

  • Sorry can't help you, I'm not that fluent in Fair Isle myself. Have you tried sites like 'Knitting Help'? They have some very experienced knitters there who are always happy to help.

  • What show was this from? I love this clip, it's so helpful.

  • From "Knitty Gritty" ep DKNG-313 Cross Colors 6/11/08

  • Thank you for posting this! This is the only helpful fair isle demo I have seen!

  • Wonderful. This is the only video I have found that has clarified the difference between intarsia and fair isle and also how the back of a fair isle pattern looks with floats!!

  • so... i taught myself how to knit from a book 8 years ago but i haven't done much color knitting aside from striping up until recently. I just finished an adorable intarsia bunny backpack, but i realized upon it's completion that i was actually doing fair isle and carrying the yarn with me throughout the entire pattern. way to go me.

i wish i'd seen this video before i made that (severe) mistake.

  • I agree with tattooedesigner. This is by far, the best explaination of fair isle and intarsia, The demo on fair isle knitting was clearly explained and demonstrated. Showing us the reverse sides of these two different knitting techniques was very helpful. It's amazing how much information you two covered in such a short space of time. Thank you so much for this posting.

  • awesome video! most helpful. thank you so much.

  • Thanks so much this has helped me soo much!

  • i didn't know how to add the colours thank you thankyou thankyou

  • Very nice video.

  • very nice

  • Authentic Fair Isle is knit on a circular needle, this way one makes only knit stitches, no purls at all, and the strands are always on the inside. It's much easier this way!
