i guess it's okay in europe to blaspheme the prophet but not the royal family of spain.

I agree with you--cartoons blaspheming the Prophet should be fined, condemned and fined, but not pre-censured. Freedom of the press and of speech are essential, but gratuitous insults to religions or to the Chief of State and his family, it seems to me, should be punished in a manner commensurate with the offence. Genuine criticisms of the Chief of State or of a religious group expressed forthrightly and honestly are a different matter. They, it seems to me, are perfectly legitimate.

sgelle: You may have noticed that blaspheming the prophet has pretty much ceased voluntarily. On the other hand, Spain appears willing to fine these guys pretty harshly. But generally I will agree that anti-Islamic rhetoric is probably more "okay" than other kinds of talk. I'm sure this will continue for a while, but people are slowly catching on.
