With nearly 37 million domestic visitors in 2010, North Carolina ranked as the sixth most visited state in the U.S. Those visitors spent more than $17 billion, contributed more than $1.5 billion in new state and local tax revenues, supported more than 40,000 NC businesses and fueled 185,500 jobs for North Carolinians. Research also found the NC Division of Tourism's advertising investment provided a return of nearly $17 in new state and local taxes for every dollar invested in paid media.
